God Wants to Make You Uncomfortable

We have great capacity to grow and develop as musicians, as students, as people. But growth requires a decision, a search for learning, and an application of what’s been learned.

God encourages us to grow:

“Like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation, if you have tasted the kindness of the Lord. And coming to Him as to a living stone which has been rejected by men, but is choice and precious in the sight of God, you also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.” 1 Peter 2:2-5 (NASB) [emphasis added].

“As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming; but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ.” Ephesians 4:14-15 (NASB) [emphasis added].

It’s so easy to be apathetic, to be careless and lazy. But God continually encourages us to grow, to learn, to develop both naturally and spiritually, to become more like Jesus in every area of life.

I encourage you to grow. Don’t be satisfied with where you are. Avoid apathy. Leave your comfort zone. Become passionate about God, His Word, and worship of Him.

Here’s a thought: When people who are passionate about God’s glory, power and presence come into contact with people who are comfortable in their spiritual lives, a shock occurs. The passion either drives those who are comfortable away, or it motivates them toward the things of God and His direction.
