Are You Where You’re Supposed to Be?
It isn’t easy to start something new. We become comfortable where we are, doing what we’re doing. But it may be time for you to move on.
You may be trying to do fresh and new things in your job or volunteer responsibility, but if you’re not in the right place at the right time, regardless of the fresh and new things you do, it won’t be right. You won’t succeed in doing what God has called you to do.
If you’ve been insisting on remaining in a specific ministry because it’s comfortable, think about this: when you wait too long to transition to a new thing or a new area, you may be blocking someone else from their next season of ministry because you’re still in the position that they’re supposed to fill.
Transitioning to something new doesn’t just happen; it requires preparation, action, and determination. If you have a sense of dissatisfaction inside, God may be preparing you to transition to do something different or to move to a different location.
God has a plan for your life. He knows the where, how, when, and with whom that plan should be fulfilled. To accomplish that plan, you need to stop trying to make something happen the way that you think it should happen. Seek Him. Be quiet before Him so He can show you the details of His plan for your life.
He knows you. He knows what you’re capable of doing with your wisdom, knowledge, experiences, resources, and physical stamina. But His plan for your life doesn’t just involve you and what you’re personally capable of doing; it involves Him. He wants to partner with you to accomplish something greater than you could do yourself.
Are you supposed to be a worship leader or team member? If so, simply relying on your voice, skill, talent, willingness, and knowledge is not enough. Knowing the details of God’s specific plan for you is vital. Here are five simple steps that will help you to know His plan and to live in it.
Step 1
Submit your heart, time, and talent to God for His use. Determine that everything you do will put people’s attention on God, not on you.
Step 2
Invite God to change you and adjust your thinking through the Bible. Read and study it regularly. Don’t just rely on a pastor to preach or teach what you need to hear; read and study for yourself.
Step 3
Ask God to position you where you belong. Be open to a new opportunity, and refuse to be afraid of the change. Remember, if God is directing you, there will be joy in spite of the challenges you may face. Psalm 16:11 in the New American Standard Bible says, “You will make known to me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; in Your right hand there are pleasures forever.” Hold on to that.
Step 4
Ask God to fill you to overflowing with His Spirit in every area of your life. He will be your counselor and teacher. We see that reality in Acts chapters 2 and 4, and John chapters 14 and 16.
Step 5
Actively participate on a daily basis in allowing God to direct you in that right place at the right time.
We get in His way at times because we think that we know more than He does. Arrogance serves no productive purpose in the Kingdom of God. We are to humble ourselves before Him. He is the source of all wisdom. Remember, it’s His ministry and purpose that you serve.
In that service is great freedom. The freedom to be who He created you to be.
