Overcoming Fear in Transition

I’m in the middle of a transition from one location to another. It could be frightening since I don’t know all of the details yet. I know where I’m headed and what I’m looking for, but I’m not sure about the exact when and the specific where. But God knows. He wants me to trust Him and to pay attention when He prompts me to look at something or to contact someone. I just have to listen and follow Him.

It’s faith in action. Faith in God is believing that He is who He says He is, and that He will do what He says He will do.

My faith is in God, not in people or in circumstances. I know Him. I know He’s trustworthy because His actions in the Bible and in my life are consistent. He’s faithful.

Fear can’t live in a place where faith in God really exists.

When fearful thoughts hit my mind, I do two things: I recognize those thoughts for what they are and choose to ignore them, and I remind myself of what I know about God and what He’s prompted me to do.

Some people say, “Where is God in all of this? Where is He in my life?” In response, I could ask them, “Have you allowed Him to be a part of your life? Do you have a relationship with Him where you listen for and follow His prompting?”

I want God to say this about me, “You’re faithful, and I can trust you to do what I ask you to do.” I expect that from Him. He should be able to expect that from me. It’s John 15:7-11 in action. We abide in and follow Jesus, and we can ask and receive what we need.

I recommend that you study the gospel of John, chapters 14 through 16. There are some truths there that we need in this time. For example, Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” John 14:27 (ESV)

We don’t have to do everything in our own strength or wisdom. We don’t have to figure it all out by ourselves. God’s plan for our lives can be known, activated, accessed, and fully experienced. It starts with a decision to trust Him. It continues with prayer and listening. It’s received by faith in Him.
